I was inspecting my onions this afternoon - or lack there of - when I was struck by the noise of the sheep in the field next door. They are such ranty little beasts and extremely ungrateful!! I planted my onions a couple of weeks ago and thus far nothing - they too are ungrateful objects though I may be a wee bit impatient.
DS1 and I went for a run today and he did very well considering he's not been out with me before - we aimed for 4 miles and did it at a run/walk pace - we have to get used to each others running styles - I run slowly but I get there in the end - he runs as best he can whilst dragging his knuckles along the floor. I digress - back tot he sheep (and the onions)...
As we were running/dragging, we noticed a lamb stuck between the stock fence and the hedge. It was in a bit of a state but the mummy sheep have voices on them like drunken dockers so I nominated DS1 to throw himself commando style over the fence and risk getting butted or barr'd to death and rescue the lamb.
Luckily a farmer trundled by in his tractor who we flagged down. He was dressed for sheep (wearing wellies) and man handled this lamb from its predicament! Off it ran and attached itself firmly to its mother (know that feeling)
By this time every sheep in the field had surrounded us and I don't mind telling you I was feeling a tad scared - it was like the village of the damned and the noise was terrific. The friendly farmer who was, by this time, out of the field safety offered up that he didn't have sheep only beef - I on the other hand don't have any onions and when they do start to grow I will make sure they don't wonder off and get stuck in a fence.
