Strange things happen when you become a regular walker

-->

Other than birds trying to kill you, shouty sheep and the occasional mad woman on a bike, once you become a regular walker, positive things can happen.  30 minutes a day on top of your usual moving and shaking is all you need to do to be a regular walker.

But here is a list of changes you should expect or as I call them incentives

  • Body fat become reduced and your body learns to burn it off more efficiently.  Be the machine!!!
  • Better muscle tone in your bum, hips, thighs and calves!  All the best bits - so no, when your walking your bum "doesn't look big in this"
  • Not as much risk of back pain unless you carry the weight of the world on your shoulders - having said that - walking is great for clearing your mind and reducing stress, anxiety and depression.
  • Generally less aches and pains
  • Better digestion and circulation - how many times have you gone for a walk after a big Sunday dinner?  Or built up an appetite by going for a little stroll first.
  • Cholesterol profile can be improved and better insulin control.
  • Your heart benefits as it learns to pump more blood with every beat.
  • Sleep can be improved
  • Immune system given a boost
  • Better posture
  • Stronger respiratory system

Have I convinced you yet?  I love going for a walk, I see things that make me laugh or amaze me, I discover new places and I always feel better after I've been for a walk.  I'm happy to walk alone but I love company too.  As a social activity, walking with friends, family and kids is a great way to wind down.
